Born to study magic
Magicians are one of Aethelgard’s Twelve Mortal Civilisations. Although outwardly close to Humans, they are a distinct species born with an innate affinity for magic. Their natural domain is First Tier Nature’s Craft, which they approach through study, formulae, research and disciplined practice rather than the instinctive relationship seen in some other magical peoples.
That scholarly tradition makes Magicians unusually versatile. They can apply natural magic to practical work, defence, reconnaissance and battlefield support, but their bodies remain comparatively fragile and effective casting demands concentration. Their importance to Aethelgard comes from the combination of innate magical access and a culture that treats magic as something to be analysed, documented and deliberately refined.
