Historical account
Flight from the iron regime
After the Aeterna takeover, Magicians in Concordia lived under censorship, surveillance, and restrictions on magical research. Around Edict 3150, a former Arch-Mage led a group of Magicians out of the city in search of a place beyond Valitra’s reach. Their flight brought them into contact with the exiled Chroniclers, who warned that Voltanis had returned and that simple concealment would not be enough.
The City of Veils
Guided toward the storm-ravaged Sunken Coast, the exiles chose cliffs and mountains where ordinary settlement was almost impossible. Arcane wards, natural barriers, and dimensional concealment turned the refuge into Arcanum: a hidden city built to preserve magical knowledge, protect those fleeing Aeterna control, and stand against the darkness gathering beyond Concordia.
Historical significance
What changed here
Arcanum begins as both refuge and refusal. Its founding preserves an independent centre of magical learning at precisely the moment when the old mortal capital is being forced into ideological conformity.
