Supreme Leader of the Khaotari · Commander of the Sundering Host
Voltanis was the defining Khaotari war leader of two Celestial conflicts, driven first by vengeance and later by an escalating pursuit of power that ended with his erasure from existence.
Across a lifetime
Follow Lord Voltanis's life in chronological chapters. Some dates are exact, while others span the years in which events are known to have taken place.
Cycle II · Edict 1251–1450
Consumed by anger over the deaths of his close friends Theros and Lyra, Voltanis raised the Sundering Host to wage war against the Aeterna. One of his first acts of vengeance was to hunt down and kill Vorlag, the Abrogator responsible for Lyra’s death.
At the end of the First Celestial War, Voltanis fought Archon Solara to a devastating stalemate in the ruins of Veridia. A wider Aeterna offensive finally forced his army to retreat.
Cycle II · Edict 1451–3105
After defeat, Voltanis led the surviving Khaotari to the Genesis Atoll and established Khaosgard. In seclusion he began studying forbidden Tier Five power and eventually mastered part of the Divine Edict.
He used that knowledge to deceive Astraia, persuaded her that Valitra posed the greater threat and framed Noctarion as the Celestial most likely to have made a pact with Chaos. Once Astraia had removed Valitra, Voltanis betrayed her and used stolen runic knowledge to imprison her in Khaosgard.
Cycle II · Edict 3301–3347
Voltanis allied with Viridar, gaining the support of her Bio-Construct armies. His spies and rumours helped drive the Dragonkin and Aerie Folk into war, weakening the mortal world before the larger conflict arrived.
He then offered a false peace and used the mortal alliance’s attack on Aetheria as the justification for a total war that spread across the continent.
Cycle II · Edict 3347
As Arcanum neared collapse, Viridar turned against Voltanis and revealed that she had treated him as a tool for destroying the old world. Their alliance ended in a divine battle in which Voltanis drew on power beyond the limits of an ordinary Tier Four god.
Saphel trapped him, Noctarion froze him with the law of Absolute Ending, and the newly freed Astraia struck with the Dimensional Blade. Voltanis was erased from existence in Edict 3347, leaving no physical remains behind.
